Mistra Geopolitics at the Swedish political week in Almedalen

Mistra Geopolitics will contribute to several public events during Sweden’s political week in Almedalen, organised in collaboration with the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research (Mistra), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (HaV) among others.

Mistra Geopolitics research experts will contribute with expertise on the forgotten opportunities of climate change action, governance for sustainable development with responsible AI and Sweden’s blue economy, featuring Mistra Geopolitics Director Björn-Ola Linnér, Dr Karina Barquet and Professor Fredrik Heintz.

The political week is Sweden’s largest democracy gathering and takes place 27 June-1 July and all Sweden’s political parties are represented.

Karina Barquet is a Senior Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute. Karina is part of the Sustainable Oceans theme within Mistra Geopolitics, where she’s leading the geopolitics of the blue economy project. Her research at SEI focuses on the political dimensions of coastal governance, including disaster risk reduction, water security, and critical infrastructures in coastal planning.

Björn-Ola Linnér is the Deputy Programme Director of Mistra Geopolitics and Professor at the Centre for Climate Science and Policy Research at Linköping University. He analyses how the political processes and actors affect conditions for social changes towards sustainable development in different parts of the world. He has a long experience in research dialogues with various societal actors, such as the climate convention’s secretariat, governments, businesses and environmental organizations.

Professor Fredrik Heintz

Fredrik Heintz is a Professor of Computer Science at Linköping University, where he leads the Reasoning and Learning lab. His research focus is artificial intelligence, especially Trustworthy AI and the intersection between machine reasoning and machine learning. His research within Mistra Geopolitics contribute to the theme Foresight Capabilities and Emerging Technologies.

Fredrik is a Director of the Wallenberg AI and Transformative Technologies Education Development Program (WASP-ED), Director of the Graduate School of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). He is a President of the Swedish AI Society and Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA).
