Mistra Geopolitics Co-Director Henrik Carlsen will participate in the Swedish political week in Visby, discussing how geopolitics can influence the climate-driven agenda in Sweden.

The Almedalen week (Almedalsveckan) is an annual event centred around Swedish politics. Mistra Geopolitics Co-Director Henrik Carlsen will contribute with his expertise in the session Backlash on the climate issue – how can politics improve on foresight?

Backlash i klimatfrågan – hur kan politiken bli bättre på framsynthet?

Valet 2022 står inför dörren i Sverige och bland politiska partier kan skönjas att politikens respons är kortsiktiga lösningar på klimatomställningens komplexa geopolitiska skeenden. Geopolitisk kunskap underlättar beslutsfattande kring 20-talets stora hållbarhetsutmaningar.

Klimatfrågan ses av många företag som lönsam, men som kostsam för den enskilda medborgaren. Hur kan politiken rusta samhället för en snabb klimatomställning, som tar höjd för geopolitiska förändringar och anpassar politiska styrmedel för att också få med sig människor?

I detta samtal diskuterar panelen kring tre teman:

  • Hur påverkar den förändrade geopolitiken förutsättningar för svensk klimatomställning?
  • Hur kan komplexa frågeställningar så som klimatfrågan hanteras långsiktigt och kortsiktigt?
  • Hur ser framtidens styrmedel ut som hanterar kort och lång sikt samt inkludering och omställning?

Henrik Carlsen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Programme Director of Mistra Geopolitics. Currently Dr. Henrik Carlsen is leading the Mistra Geopolitics research theme Foresight Capabilities and Emerging Technologies. He is an expert on decision making under uncertainty, with an emphasis on climate change adaptation. His research interests are based on the intersection between science and policy on long-term challenges to society.
