Linköping University and Mistra Geopolitics are proud to present a distinguished lecture with Pedro Conceição, Director, Human Development Report Office, UNDP.
This lecture traces the evolution of human development thinking — from the early Human Development Reports to today’s debates on measurement and sustainability.

The lecture highlights how indices like the Human Development Index (HDI) have moved beyond GDP to capture wellbeing, agency, inequality, and environmental sustainability. The seminar will also present cutting-edge advances in hyper-local human development metrics using machine learning, and discuss future scenarios in the context of planetary change.
About Pedro Conceição
Pedro Conceição has been the Director of the Human Development Report Office at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 2019. He has previously held senior roles within UNDP and is the lead author of several Human Development Reports. Pedro has published research on inequality, innovation, and sustainable development, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
