GEOPOLITICS OF PHOSPHOROUS – The importance of trade, teleconnections and governance for phosphorous sustainability.

Mistra Geopolitics researchers are hosting a session on the Geopolitics of phosphorus at the 6th Sustainable Phosphorus summit (SPS) 2018 in Brasilia hosted by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Coporation – Embrapa.

Karin Eliasson, PhD student at Linköping University and Mistra Geopolitics researcher, held a presentation on ‘Spatially explicit use of phosphorus and related environmental impacts in Brazilian soybean production for European consumption’ – a joint project with Mistra Geopolitics researchers from Linköping University and the Stockholm Environment Institute, at the 6th SPS in Brasilia.

The session ‘Geopolitics of Phosphorus – the importance of trade, teleconnections and governance for phosphorus sustainability’ was organized and chaired by Mistra Geopolitics researcher associate Prof. Tina-Simone Neset jointly with GeneviĂ©ve Metson (both also from Linköping University).

The session brought together researchers from various countries and research areas focusing on teleconnections, trade, stakeholder mapping, institutional frameworks and governance aspects related to sustainable global phosphorus management.

Tina-Simone Neset also participates in a special meeting of the UNEP Phosphorus Task Team to debate phosphorus and global environmental governance.
