Conflict Mitigation as Adaptation – panel speaker, Karen Meijer

Katongo Seyuba will receive an award for outstanding early career contribution to environmental peacebuilding, based on his broad range of work activities including for the Mistra Geopolitics food security work package.

Environmental Peacebuilding Priorities over the Next Decade – panel speaker, Farah Hegazi

Kyungmee Kim will present her paper “Artificial Intelligence for Climate Security: Opportunities and Challenges for Addressing Climate Related Security”

Karen Meijer

Karen Meijer is a Senior Researcher in SIPRI’s climate change and risk programme. Her research focus on the role and effectiveness of national and international actors when addressing climate-related security risks. She leads the Mistra Geopolitics Work Package 2 on Sustainable Oceans, and contributes to Project 4.4: How can humanitarian aid be improved in a changing climate?

Farah Hegazi

Dr Farah Hegazi is a Researcher in SIPRI’s Climate Change and Risk programme. Her research focuses on identifying and understanding climate-related security risks, and how interventions to address the effects of climate change can be used to build peace. She is currently working on evaluating how climate-related security risks affect peacekeeping missions, and on how the World Food Programme’s climate-related interventions can potentially contribute to peace. She is a part of the Food Security theme within Mistra Geopolitics.

Kim Kyungmee

Kyungmee Kim is a Researcher in SIPRI’s climate change and risk programme and contributes to Mistra Geopolitics on the role of AI in advancing sustainable development goals (Project 4.2). Her research interest includes the relationship between climate change and violent conflict and the local responses to climate change in conflict settings.
